Darius B. Cook was a young man in the winter of 1839/40 when he and a friend camped in the wilderness of Allegan County, southeastern Michigan. He wrote this fifty years later based on his diary and his memory, after spending his career as a newspaperman in Niles, Michigan. The book is unintentionally funny in at least one part.
