When these dead skin cells and sebum are exposed to the air, they turn black, forming a blackhead. Blackheads, at this point, are often easy to spot; they appear as small dark spots on the dog's skin. Of course, they are easier to spot in dogs with little hair or in areas where dogs lack hair, such as the dog's belly.
