Having shield ally will open up more options for non Sturdy shields for you that you'll still be OK blocking with. Shield Warden can be pretty neat. You can shield block for your allies, which at first won't be a big deal since you can use your Champion reaction for. But at level 10 you'll get shield of reconning.Champion actually has really good synergy with Barbarian. Champion's reaction is one of the best in the game, especially Redeemer. If you grab AoO at level 6 it will be a hard choice which to spend your reaction on, but it's good to have options.
