I agree with you. I own a p226 legion sao already and was checking out the m11-a1 to add to the collection. Further research led me to the original German p228. For $300-400 less cash I picked up a p228. Its a fantastic pistol, it is essentially the m11-a1 except for the folded steel slide (which may be problematic) for humid climates).

The checkmate is harder to load and requires more force to seat it as well as to depress the mag release button.

I do prefer OWB in either a Don Hume H721 pancake (P229SAS) or a Bianchi Mod.83 PaddleLok (P229 SAS or P227 SAS). The Don Hume was made for theP228/229 so the P227 won't fit with the squared trigger guard. In 2017, SIG started calling ALL the P229s, "Compacts". When they aren't really a "compact gun".
